Social Media Activity Exposing Many Users to Cyber Risk
According to a new report from security company Tessian, 75 percent of people post information on social media that could make them susceptible to a cyberattack. The report found that 84 percent of people post on their social media accounts every week, with 42 percent posting every day.
Individuals often reveal critical information that might help hackers create social engineering attacks or take over accounts, with 55 percent of respondents stating they have public profiles on Facebook. A mere 32 percent of Instagram accounts are private. The report, based on a survey of 4,000 professionals in the U.K. and U.S., also found that out-of-office emails are now being utilized to create social engineering attacks, with 53 percent of employees stating they share how long they will be away.
