Three PIA Advocacy Wins to Start the New Year
January 7, 2020

In a major victory for PIA National’s advocacy efforts, the year-end federal funding package passed by Congress and signed by President Trump just before the holidays included several of PIA’s top legislative priorities and will have a positive effect on PIA members:

  • The National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) was extended until September 30, 2020.
  • The healthcare Cadillac Tax was permanently repealed.
  • The Terrorism Risk Insurance Program (referred to as TRIA) was extended through the end of 2027.

“This is a triple win for independent insurance agents,” said Jon Gentile, vice president of government relations for PIA National. “We advocated strongly for the inclusion of these vital measures in this funding package.”

While we have advanced our priorities in 2019, Gentile cautions in a year-end wrap-up article [“A Successful Year in Advocacy for PIA Members”] that there is still much work to be done.
