Kent Sullivan, who took over as Texas insurance commissioner less than a month after the largest natural disaster in the state’s history, has announced his resignation. Sullivan took the helm in September 2017, just after Hurricane Harvey smashed into the state, causing an estimated $15.7 billion in incurred losses.

Sullivan notified Gov. Greg Abbott of his decision to step down in September to return to the private sector.
