PIA Praises Senate Passage of CR Extending NFIP to Sept. 30, 2021
WASHINGTON – The National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA National) is praising the U.S..Senate for including a year-long extension of the National Flood Insurance Program in a FY 21 continuing resolution (CR) that it passed on Sept. 30.
The Senate voted 84-10 to pass the continuing resolution (CR) to fund the federal government to December 11th. In a win for PIA members and consumers, the CR includes an extension of the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) until next year, to September 30, 2021. The program was set to expire on September 30of this year. The House passed the same CR with the NFIP provision on September 22. The White House has indicated President Trump will sign the bill.
“This is good news for property owners, especially since 2020 has been one of the busiest hurricane seasons on record,” said Jon Gentile, vice president of government relations at PIA National. “PIA National has been working throughout the summer with policymakers on extending the NFIP for as long as possible. We strongly support the NFIP reauthorization package that passed the House Financial Services Committee in 2019 as the right framework for reform and long-term reauthorization.”
