July 29, 2020

Hurricane Hanna, 2020’s first Atlantic basin hurricane, made landfall during the late afternoon of July 25 as a Category 1 storm on the Corpus Christi, Texas, coast at Padre Island with winds of 90 mph. The Corpus Christi-area dodged the hurricane’s heavier rain bands, but the storm still left significant flooding and damage in its path. Meanwhile, Hurricane Douglas began to move away from many of the Hawaiian Islands that had been threatened.

Hurricanes are violent and dangerous to your family and your home. When a hurricane threatens to bear down, make sure that you know how to batten down your hatches and protect yourself, your loved ones and your property.

Don’t wait until after you have a loss to check your insurance—review your homeowners or renters policies to make you have the right coverage in the event you’re hit with a destructive storm. The Insurance Information Institute offers this Hurricane season insurance guide.
