2020 Hurricane Season Busiest Ever
As the 2020 hurricane season winds down to a conclusion on December 1, it has been the busiest ever recorded. At least 29 named storms occurred this season and, the latest, Hurricane Iota, struck Nicaragua on Nov. 16. The most significant damage from a hurricane is typically caused by flooding.
Roy Wright, CEO of the Insurance Institute for Business & Home Safety, observes, "It's mid-intensity storms that park for long durations that are being really the facilitators of the most catastrophic losses." The Federal Emergency Management Agency estimates that one inch of floodwater can cause up to $25,000 in damage.
