A Message From PIA's President
If you’re a principal of an independent insurance agency, you probably already know that planning for perpetuation is important. However, too often perpetuation planning is something that gets postponed. It raises issues some might be uncomfortable dealing with. But not preparing is not a good option. Perpetuation it is not something that will take care of itself.
Every agency will eventually perpetuate at the death, disability or retirement of its owners or earlier sale of the agency. Yet few agency owners adequately prepare for perpetuation and sadly, many never plan for a crisis requiring immediate perpetuation.
PIA National and our carrier council, The PIA Partnership, have just unveiled the Partnership’s Agency Journey Mapping program. Its goal is to help agents understand the issues surrounding agency perpetuation, while making it easy for them to create a personalized perpetuation plan for their agencies.
PIA and The PIA Partnership work together to develop hands-on tools for PIA members and agents appointed by Partnership carriers, of which Agency Journey Mapping is the latest.
Agency Journey Mapping, available at www.agencyjourneymapping.com, expands on the previous Perpetuation Central, which has long been among the most popular Partnership programs.
Let me express my heartfelt thanks on behalf of all PIA members to all of the members of The PIA Partnership: Central Insurance Companies, Encompass Insurance, Erie Insurance, Liberty Mutual Insurance, MetLife Auto & Home, National General Insurance, Progressive Insurance, Selective Insurance Group, State Auto Insurance Companies and The Hanover Insurance Group.
